HWF Annual Gala Postponed Until September

Ottawa charity Helping With Furniture (HWF) announced today they are moving their annual fundraising gala from April 24th to September 25th. 

“After much consideration, our Board has decided to move our gala to the fall,” says Nathalie Maione, Co-Founder and President of HWF. “We understand the risk of COVID-19 is low in Ottawa, but with the current uncertainty around the virus, out of an abundance of caution we have decided to postpone.” 

The event, which typically brings together over 200 people, is an important part of HWF’s fundraising efforts and last year raised $18,000. These funds help HWF – which is a 100% volunteer-run organisation – deliver more furniture and household goods to families in situations of hardship. More than 310 homes were furnished just last year.

“We are in a very good place right now that we can easily move dates and it won’t have a significant impact on our organisation or our planning,” adds Maione. “This change is not coming from a place of panic – we just feel that considering the current situation, this is the best decision for us right now.”

The award-winning charity – that provides gently-used furniture and household goods to families and individuals in distress – will hold 2020’s Gala on Friday, September 25th at the St. Elias Centre Conference and Banquet Facility.
