HWF Cancels 2020 Gala

Ottawa charity Helping with Furniture (HWF) announced today they are cancelling their annual fundraising gala this year.
“We all need to do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” says Nathalie Maione, Co-Founder and President of HWF. “While we looked forward to this celebration of our accomplishments, the current restrictions on gatherings will not make this possible this year.”
HWF’s annual gala typically brings together over 200 people and is an important part of our fundraising efforts. Last year, the event raised $18,000. As a 100% volunteer-run organization, HWF relies on these funds to support our operations, pay rent on our warehouse and put gas in our trucks. With these donations, HWF was able to furnish more than 310 homes last year.
“The pandemic is impacting vulnerable people in our community more than anyone else. We’ve seen a jump of more than 30% in requests coming to us since the beginning of the year,” Maione says. “We count on people’s generosity to help us continue to operate and respond to these growing needs.”
