In-Person Volunteer Positions
Warehouse - Movers and Drivers
Warehouse Movers
Works in a team at the warehouse Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings organizing donated furniture items and moving client furniture from the warehouse into moving vans for transport. This can include sofas, TV stands, tables, chairs, dressers, etc.
Donation Pick-Up Team Movers
Works in a team on Saturday mornings and/or Wednesday evenings picking-up furniture items from donor homes.
Donation Pick-Up Team Drivers
Works with a team of movers on Saturday mornings and/or Wednesday evenings driving the HWF Truck (26-foot long) to pick-up furniture from donor homes. Scheduled in advance.
Special Pick-Up Team (Movers and Drivers)
Works with a team on weekdays as per demand. Driver and Movers picking-up donated furniture items from businesses.
Warehouse - Teams
Bundler Teams (Kitchenware, Curtains, Linens, Toys and Baby Equipment)
Works alone or a small group at the warehouse sorting and organizing non-furniture donations, and assembles and packages these items for clients (i.e., kitchenware, curtains, linens, toys and baby equipment)
Bike Repair Team
Repairs and lightly restores gently used bicycles and prepares them for donation to clients
Laptop Team
Prepares donated laptops for distribution to clients by ensuring they are in good working order and have been cleared of any residual data from the donor. Refurbishes computers in need of basic repairs for donation to clients.
Warehouse - Maintenance
Furniture Maintenance/Repairs
Works with a team on Wednesday mornings. Repairs and lightly restores gently used donated items. This can include basic furniture repairs such as replacing wheels or assembling furniture.
Floor Displays
Works with a team on Wednesday mornings. Organizing the Warehouse by arranging floor displays and shelf displays. Also involving cleaning and sorting donations.
Events
Spring Gala
The annual HWF fundraising event. Works with a team organizing the event. Working on one of these tasks such as social media, sale of tickets, reserving speakers, creating the agenda for the full evening and setting-up the silent auction.
Special Events
Community based events such as Dragon Boat, community furniture donation events, and other community charity events that arise during the year.
Community Outreach
Mesh-Up Ottawa
A community-based organization run entirely by volunteers committed to improving local courts and supporting community organizations through sports and teamwork. Mesh Up travels to basketball courts, particularly in equity deserving neighbourhoods in Ottawa, to install meshes in the basketball hoops, donate basketballs and water bottles, and clean the parks together as a team.

Donations
Donor Intake Team
Reviews offers of donation submitted via the HWF website, confirm suitability of items and contact the donor to arrange a date for pick-up by the Donation Pick-Up Team Movers.
Drivers/Pickups Coordinator
Responsible for scheduling and overseeing the collection of donated goods from individuals. This role involves managing communication with donors, coordinating transportation, and maintaining up to date the list of drivers.
Client Services
Client Intake Team
Reviews client applications, interviews and communicates with potential clients, assesses client needs against the ability of HWF to fulfill requests and sets up appointments for pick-up of items
Client Selection (Visitor) Team
Meets virtually with clients and completes a report of their needs for the Client Assistants attending the warehouse. Talks to clients to prepare them for what to expect when visiting the warehouse on pick-up day and answers their questions.
Support Roles
Grants/Fundraising Team
Generates funds for HWF through seeking financial donations from the community, applying for grants, and planning and organizing the annual HWF gala event.
Corporate Sponsorship Team
Involves cultivating relationships with potential funders, managing grant compliance and reporting, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization through diverse revenue streams.
Marketing Team
Responsible for developing and executing strategies that promote HWF services.
Social Media/Communications Team
Generates media and communication materials for HWF, including content for HWFs social media platforms. Uses communication strategies to raise awareness of HWF’s work in the community.
Volunteer Coordinator Team
Recruits and onboards new volunteers, ensure teams are well staffed, coordinates volunteer appreciation initiatives, participates in community events focused on volunteer recruitment
IT Services Team
Responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of HWF’s technical IT assets.
